Should you keep bananas in the fridge?

Many people have asked me Why banana should not be kept in fridge? Its pretty interesting finding the reason for not keeping the bananas in the fridge, there are infact a couple of reasons and some myths associated with the keeping of the bananas in the fridge.

Bananas emit a gas called ethylene, this gas actually hastens the process of riping.
Bananas do not ripe in cool temperatures unlike most other fruits which ripen (at a slower rate) under cool temperatures.
Banana skin becomes black when kept for long under cool temperatures

Thus bananas should not be kept in the fridge unless they are not ripe
They can be kept in the fridge once you want to preserve it for longer (after they are riped)
The skin gets black but internally they are good once peeled.
Ideally they should be wrapped in a plastic bag, ideally a zip lock bag (to prevent the ethylene gas from going out in the fridge and thus hastening the riping process for all the food items in the fridge.)
